Secrets Or Lies? [Oneshot]

They were both sat on their bed, oppositely facing each other. He was resting against the headboard while she was sat Indian style fiddling with her hair. The room was being lit by the two wall lamps above them. They hadn't spoken all day, both of them had been busy and this was the opportunity he had to ask her a question that had been puzzling him all day. 

"So where were you this morning? I woke up and you wasn't there" 

I can't tell him where I was it could ruin everything. She thought, biting her lip.

"I went to see my mum" she lied through her teeth.

"At 9 o'clock in the morning?"

"Yes"

"Hmm okay, how do you feel about going to see my mum later on?" He cleared his throat before continuing "She having a family dinner"

Great, if his mum sees me she'll notice straight away. Another thought crossed her mind.

"I'll see cause I've been feeling a bit under the weather" Not a complete lie.

A week later.

"Baby I'm home" Nicki closed the door behind her and walked up the stairs clicking her heels.

"Baby?" She opened the bedroom door and was met by a note.

Dear Onika,

I'm so sorry I had to do this through a letter. I wish things didn't turn out this way. This note will probably be the last memory you'll have of me. I wish we could continue but what's a relationship without trust? It's not that I don't trust you at all, I just don't trust you the way I used to. A one-sided love? Can romantic love exist in only one person? I'll be back tomorrow, please don't make this any harder than it has to be, I want you gone tomorrow. I still love you...

Almost two years later.

"Good morning beautiful" He walked out the bathroom with a towel wrapped tightly around his waist.

"Morning, did you just come out the shower?"

"Nah but come here" She took his outstretched hand and got up out of bed and followed him to the bathroom. Once her clothes were off and his towel was, he helped her into the tub. They both seemed to relax as he began to wash her and she returned the favour. He helped her out as well and handed her a towel for her to dry off with. 

As the day progressed the couple ate breakfast in bed naked and watched morning TV then got dressed and snuggled up on the sofa and watched a film. The two adults were laughing and having a good time then a knock at the door disturbed the couple's peace.

"Aubrey, baby. Get the door" Drake went to the open the door and was surprised to see her there.  

"Onika?"

"Hey. Long time no see huh?" She smiled small.

"Yeah, uh" He hadn't seen in her so long. She had gotten thicker especially in her hips but still maintained that hourglass figure that he loved so much. Her hair was longer and had more volume. Apart from that, nothing else about her changed. The jeans she was wearing and her tank top were doing wonders. He was too busy focusing on her to notice the child she had on her hip.

"Oh, who's this little guy?"

"AJ" 

"You had a son?"

"No, we had a son" She said. The little boy had his head on her shoulder and was fast asleep.

"Well let me invite you in"

Drake opened the door and stood behind it. He closed the door after her.

"Who's at the door?"

"Paige, I want you to meet someone" Paige took her eyes off of the TV and stood up facing towards them.

"Paige, this is my... Friend Nicki. Nicki, this is my girlfriend Paige"

"Nice to meet you" Nicki smiled and stuck out her hand.

With hesitation, Paige shook it. "You too"

Fakely smiling at Nicki, Paige asked Drake if she could talk to him in the kitchen. Before speaking, she checked if Nicki was close enough to listen to them but she wasn't. She was sat on the couch cradling AJ in her arms, slowly rocking him.  

"How come I've never heard of her before?"

"We lost contact a long time ago, didn't think we would talk again"

"Are you sure she's just a friend?"

"Yes, nothing more"

"Good, I'll go upstairs so you can catch up" Paige said and kissed him. She walked back through the lounge, said a brief goodbye to Nicki and went upstairs to the room she shared. 

"Nicki, do you want a drink?" He called from the kitchen. 

"Water would be nice" Drake got her a glass of water and put a few ice cubes in it, and got himself a glass of fruit juice. He brought them out and took a place next to her on the couch.

"So how have you been?"

"Good, been busy taking care of this guy"

"Are you sure he's mine?" After he said it, he took a sip of his juice.

"What do you mean? Am I sure he's yours? Can you not see the resemblance? He's practically your twin, we can get a DNA test if you want"

"I'm sorry. I'm just trying to take it all in. Hold on, how old is he?"

"He just turned one, a few months ago"

"Right so if I'm correct, you were pregnant when we broke up?"

"Yep"

"Is that why you were being so secretive?"

"Yes, I was scared. We were in a good place in our relationship and I thought a baby would ruin things. I was going to get rid of him before you found out but I couldn't go with it especially after I saw him on the scan for the first time. Remember that day I said I went to see my mum, it was the day after I found out. I went to the doctors to see if I was really pregnant"

"Shit. And I thought you were cheating,"

Nicki cut him off. "If I was in your position, I would have too. But it sort of turned out to be a good thing, we got a son and I learned how to be independent. I'm sorry I kept him away from you this long, I didn't know how you would react so I kept my distance for as long as I could"

"I guess. Glad things turned out for the better. How did you find me?"

"Erm you live in the same house... I just gathered that you didn't move so I gave it a try"

"Oh right, so where did you move to?"

"Not too far away from here, only took me 45 minutes to get here"

The two of them continued talking unaware that the whole time Paige had been sitting on the top stair listening to them. She quickly snuck back to the bedroom and called her best friend.

"What would you do if your boyfriend's friend came over and that friend was girl?"

"Nothing. All guys have girl friends so it wouldn't bother me, why?"

"It happened. His friend is over and she is gorgeous, way prettier than me. Wait, did I just say that?"

"Seems like you're jealous to me"

"I'm not jealous!"

"That's what jealous people say" Her friend sang.

"You're no help, bye" Paige hung up and threw her phone down on the bed. 



"Since I'm a dad now. I should come and see you well our son"

"That would be the responsible thing to do" Nicki finished off her drink.

"Here" Drake grabbed his phone from his pocket. "Put your number and address in" Nicki did as Drake told her to and gave his phone back to him.

"Mama" AJ mumbled. He had been sleeping and just woke up. He rubbed his eyes and looked around.

"Yes baby?" 

"Who's that?"

"Your daddy"

"Daddy?" His eyes set up upon Drake. Nicki had told AJ about his dad before, he slowly recognised him.

"Yeah s-son" AJ outstretched his hands towards Drake and Drake just looked at him.

"He wants you to take him" Nicki told him. Drake pulled him onto his lap.

"Can I use your bathroom?" 

"Sure. Upstairs, what am I talking about? You know where it is" She went to the bathroom and the moment she came out, she bumped into Paige.

"Oh I'm sorry, didn't see you there"

"I'm sure you didn't. You may be his friend but I am his girlfriend and don't forget that, mess with him and I've got your ass. Got it?"

"Loud and clear. One last thing, nobody like a jealous girlfriend. You might have him fooled but I can see right through your fake personality and you don't scare me one bit" Nicki walked away unbothered. When she went back downstairs, she saw AJ and Drake laughing.

"Bonding?"

"Oh yes, he's one funny fella" Nicki didn't say anything back, she simply smiled at the sight of them and sat back down on the couch. She spent another hour there before she decided, she needed to go. 

"We should get going" She gestured to him to give AJ to her and he did. She stood up balancing him on her hip.

"Say bye-bye to daddy" 

"Bah-bye" AJ waved rapidly.

"Not going to say bye to me?"

"Bye Aubrey" Nicki said with a bland tone to her voice and closed the door behind her.

"Hello?"

"Hey"

"Who is this?"

"Aubrey"

"Oh, what do you want?"

"Well I was wondering if I, we could keep AJ tonight" 

"I don't know, you've never had him overnight before and I don't trust your girlfriend"

"You know I would never let anything happen to him, please"

"You better not, I won't hesitate to hurt either of you"

She sighed. "Alright, I'll drop him off after I pick him up from daycare"

AJ was no trouble to look after during the day but at night, he was a pain in the ass. Drake learned the hard way since Nicki didn't tell him what to do if he wouldn't go to sleep. The next morning, AJ was sat on the floor colouring and Drake was reading a book but looking at him every so often. Paige had refused to help him since AJ got there. While Drake had his eyes on his book, AJ saw Paige's phone on the table. Just like any child would, he picked it up and tapped the screen. Paige grabbed the phone out of his hand and hit him on his hand. AJ whimpered before he started crying. Drake had seen her hit him and got up from his seat, grabbed her by her arm and pulled her into the kitchen.

"Why did you hit him?" He asked as calmly as he could.

"He had my phone" Paige shrugged.

"That is not a reason for you to hit my child. The only people who should discipline him is me or his mother, don't ever do that again" He let go of her arm and went back to tend to AJ who was still crying. He picked him up and grabbed his overnight bag that was left by the couch and stormed out of the house. The minute he pulled up outside Nicki's house, he knew what was coming his way. He rang the doorbell and she answered it almost immediately.

"I was just about to call you to see how he was doing"

"Oh right. You seem busy, I'll bring him back later" Drake said as he was about to turn away.

"It's fine. Was my little angel good?" She smiled, running her finger through his hair.

"Yeah, he was no trouble"

AJ reached for her and she took him from Drake. "Aww mummy missed you so much"

"Did you miss me too?" She asked and rubbed her thumb over his hand. As soon as she touched it, he started to whimper again.

"What's wrong?" She looked down at his hand and saw a bruise forming. "What is that on his hand?! I thought I told you to take care of him!"

"Nic, let me explain" Nicki walked into her house and waited for Drake to walk in to. She slammed the door and put AJ down.

"I want a full explanation now" She sneered.

"Paige hit him because he had her phone, I took my eye off his for a second honestly. I told her not to hit him again"

"That fucking bitch!" She ran to get some shoes and put them on. "Get him" She grabbed her coat from the hook and darted out of the door. He knew exactly where she was going. He grasped AJ's hand and followed her, well tried to. She was driving so fast, it was impossible to keep up with her. When he got there, Nicki was already banging his door down. Paige opened the door and was punched so hard in the face, Drake could hear it from the driveway. Nicki stepped over her body and dragged her by her hair into the house out of view. 

The punches didn't stop coming. "Do not ever put your hands on my son again"

By the time, Drake rushed in. Nicki on top of Paige and Paige was trying to shield herself. 

"Get off me, you crazy bitch" She screamed. 

Drake grabbed Nicki's waist and pulled her off of her. "That's enough"

"Hell no. She deserves more than that" She was desperately trying to hit her again but with the grip Drake had on her, it was hard to move. When he thought she had calmed down, he let her go. During this time, Paige got up and went to look at her face in the mirror. Her face was badly bruised, her left eye was black and her nose was bleeding.

"Don't think I'm ever leaving him here again" Nicki got AJ and left.

BabyDaddy: She's out of my life. I still want to see him.
BabyMama: I'm not stopping you.

BabyDaddy: I'm on the bench near the pond.

It had been just over 3 months since the incident. Nicki and Drake started to build up their relationship again, they were almost back to where they were before they started dating - close friends.

"We're here" Nicki sang. She hugged Drake with one arm as AJ was holding her other.

"Daddy" AJ smiled up at Drake.

"Hey buddy" Drake smiled back at him. "So what we doing?"

"I'm not bothered, we'll do whatever AJ wants"

"Ducks!" AJ shouted pointing at the pond. "Mommy, daddy" He grabbed his parents' hand 'dragging' them with him.

"Bread"

"I don't have any" Nicki said and AJ frowned. "Maybe if you ask daddy, he will go and get some"

"Bread peas (Please) daddy" 

"But I," Then his son gave him the glare he learned from his mother. "Fine, I'll be back in a bit"

Drake came back to see them both eating ice cream cones. "Where's mine?"

"At the stall, go get one"

"Never mind" After they had finished their cones, Drake opened the loaf of bread and handed some to AJ. AJ ran to the pond and threw them in.

"Yay!" He clapped. Drake and Nicki just laughed at him. They feed the whole loaf to the ducks.

"So I've been thinking about something" They were on a boat ride going around the park.

"Thinking about what?" Nicki asked.

"Well I want us to be a proper family, you know. Living together and all that. We could even give our relationship a try again"

She sighed deeply. "I would like to but we can't. I don't want to ruin what we rebuilt, even more so since we have AJ to worry about"

"You're right. Maybe in the future?"

"I'll think about it"
